I just came back from a 2-week trip back to Taiwan from Los Angeles, for the centennial celebration of R.O.C. , had a great time, did't get to see any of the official celebratory events, even though that's the main purpose of my trip, due to the overwhelming number of returning expatriates, and the pre-arranged trip by my brother in Taiwan.
My brother took me and my wife (also from Taiwan), all over Taipei, for all kinds of food and snacks we craved for years, I'm drooling just thinking about some of them, so glad my brother's retired now, so not only he and my sister-in-law got to travel with us to southern Taiwan, he accompanied us every day, and was pretty shocked by how much we ate, it's just too hard to stop, and now my wife is working hard to rid the 5-10 lbs, she said she gained in Taiwan, I am luckier, I guess, I actually lost 5 lbs, due to my stomach discomfort from eating too much the 1st week, lost my healthy appetite afterwards, now I am happy I accomplished the impossible weight-loss goal without any effort.
I have no clue, why all the food tasted so much better in Taiwan, even the simple peanut shaved ice or peanut soup, you can never get the same tasty ones anywhere, not even close, may be that's the real reason, why I registered to vote for the Presidential election in January 2012, I love all the time I spent in Taiwan, and how easy to get around using public transits, all the wonderful restaurants any which way you turn, and most of all, it's the back home feeling, no place on earth can compare, even though I don't really know how to get to any place by myself, without hiring a taxi.
I know my wife will shake her head in disbelieve, food is all I think of when I thought about R.O.C. and me!
